I often get requests to make custom bags and sometimes I have been able to make them. My Classic Duffel started as a custom bag request and so did some of the different sizes of my current bags. I’ve made some interesting one-off custom bags as well (including a waterproof cello case).
I have had to refuse custom bag requests if they are too complex or dissimilar to my current work. I’ve contemplated discontinuing all custom bag requests, but I’m going to leave it open for now with the understanding that I may have to refuse them if they don’t fit my schedule and style. Custom bags can take a lot longer to make because I have to make a pattern (which often causes me mental anguish if it is too complex).
Rules of Thumb
- The simpler your request, the more likely I am to be able to make it. For instance, I recently made a custom set of winter camping sled duffels in three different sizes.
- Likewise, the more similar your request is to something I already make, the more likely I am to be able to make it.
- Lastly, the less picky you are about the details (e.g. you need winter camping sled duffels in a certain size but don’t care to much what they look like), the more likely I am to be able to make it.
If you want something that I make already but in a different size, I am often able to accomodate that with an extra charge for the time spent re-patterning it.
Please contact me with your ideas and I can tell you if it is possible.
